About the author: A.M. Arthur was born and raised in the same kind of small town that she likes to write about, a stone's throw from both beach resorts and generational farmland. She's been creating stories in her head since she was a child and scribbling them down nearly as long, in a losing battle to make the fictional voices stop. She credits an early fascination with male friendships (bromance hadn't been coined yet back then) with her later discovery of and subsequent love affair with m/m romance stories. When not exorcising the voices in her head, she toils away in a retail job that tests her patience and gives her lots of story fodder. She can also be found in her kitchen, pretending she's an amateur chef and trying to not poison herself or others with her cuisine experiments. MEET THE AUTHORToday I’m very lucky to be interviewing A.M. Arthur author of The World As He Sees It (Perspectives #2). Hi A.M., thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself, your background, and your current book. Hello! I’m a contemporary m/m romance author (who occasionally dips into paranormal). I hail from the Eastern Shore of Maryland, equal distances from beaches and corn fields, and I currently share my apartment with two rascals of kitties. My current book, The World As He Sees It, is the second in my Perspectives series with Samhain Publishing. It’s Tristan and Gabe’s book, and anyone who read the first Perspectives knows why Tristan is super special. He has severe short term memory loss, which prevents him from living a fully realized life. Gabe spends all of his time and money taking care of his alcoholic mother, which prevents him, also, from living a fully realized life. I’m so excited for readers to finally get their story. List five of your favorite TV shows (past or present) and tell us what you loved about them. This is never an easy question to answer, because there are so many shows that I’ve loved over the years. To narrow it down, I’ve really thought about the shows that meant something to me, or affected me in some meaningful way. So in no particular order: Oz. A gritty HBO drama set in a maximum security prison, you don’t go into a series expecting to care about murders, rapists, thieves, punks, and the hard-nosed guards to keep order. But you do. Almost from the first moments, you know this show is something different. It goes places I never expected, it touches on the very basic problems with society, racism, and the prison systems. It’s gory, it’s full of violence and nudity, but in the end, it makes you think. A lot. The West Wing. This show has some of the very best dialogue ever written for television. Period. Plus the relationship between Josh and Donna? Perfection. Martin Sheen as president? Love. The first three seasons are the best, but the entire series is worth watching. The Sentinel. I have a special love for this one, because it’s what got me involved in writing fanfiction. I’d never done it before, but my infatuation with this SF-cop drama led me to online fandom at a time when the internet was still on dial-up and newsgroups were a brand new thing. I fell into this world, and posting my first story online was terrifying. It was the first time, outside of school, that I’d really shared my work with strangers. Plus, you know, it’s a fun show about a police officer with super-heightened senses, and the new-age hippie professor who helps him understand how to control his senses. Boomtown. Two cops, two detectives, two paramedics, an ADA, and a reporter. Crimes told from various perspectives, including the victim and perp. Neal McDonough, Donnie Wahlberg, Mykelti Williamson, and Jason Gedrick (can you feel the hotness?). This was a brilliant show that didn’t get the chance it needed to find audiences in its amazing first season, and when season two rolled around, the producers had completely gutted the premise. It didn’t last long after that, and I’m not sorry season two never made it to DVD, because the first season is perfect all by itself. Joss Whedon. I know he isn’t a TV show, but you can’t ask me to choose between Buffy, Angel or Firefly. I adore them all for their unique characters, snarky dialogue, and unexpected plot twists. Whedon TV can do no wrong.
